Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Grahamstown Public School, Scripture (SRE) is delivered on Friday with K-2 students attending general scripture in odd weeks and 3-6 students attending in even weeks. Catholic scripture will be provided weekly.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the office, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Grahamstown Public School:

Catholic SRE is provided by the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. More information about Catholic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the website: https://ccd.sydneycatholic.org/publications/curriculum-resources/.

Combined SRE is provided by Raymond Terrace Baptist Church. More information about Combined SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the website https://godspace.org.au/ .

The school chaplancy program is provided by Generate Services SU Australia. They support students and their communities through the provision of Chaplaincy and Special Religious Education (SRE), also known as Scripture. https://generate.org.au/

During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will remain in their classroom and will participate in meaningful activities (activities could include reading, private study or completing homework).

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
